About

shoutbid is a public leaderboard with one rule: rank is the bid, nothing else. Every placement on the page is an ad, and every one of them is sold the same way: in the open, by public bid, at a price anyone can read off the screen. No ad network, no targeting, no auction you cannot see, and no algorithm deciding who gets shown. You pay to stand above everyone else, and everyone can see exactly what that cost.

How it works

Submit a website or an X @handle with an amount. The board is sorted by amount, highest first. Bid more than the person above you and you take their place; bid less and you land wherever that amount reaches. When two bids are equal, the one placed first keeps the higher rank.

A listing starts at $5 and moves in whole dollars. Taking #1 costs $5 more than the current top bid, which is enough that the top of the board is never flipped for a dollar. Submit the same site again to raise it, and you only pay the difference between your old bid and your new one.

Your bid does not expire. There is no monthly fee and no renewal. You hold your rank until somebody outbids you, and then you move down one.

Two markets

The leaderboard is one market. The 20 billboards flanking it are another. Ten a side, opening at $99.99 and bid up the same way. They are counted separately, so a product can hold a leaderboard rank and a billboard at once. 1 are currently taken.

Payment is what claims the rank

Nothing writes to the board except a completed payment. Checkout is handled by Stripe; shoutbid never sees a card number. When Stripe confirms the payment, the listing appears, usually within a couple of seconds. If a payment fails or is abandoned, nothing happens at all.

A raise only ever charges the difference. If you are on the board at $40 and want $60, you pay $20. Nobody else can take your rank by paying that $20; for them it is a $60 bid.

What the numbers mean

Clicks are counted on the way out: every link on the board is a redirect through shoutbid, so the count is a real click on a real listing, not an estimate. Automated traffic is filtered, and repeated clicks from the same visitor on the same listing only count once an hour.

Online is the number of people who have loaded the board in the last 90 seconds. Visitors counts first-time browsers since launch, one per browser, using a first-party cookie. No third-party trackers, no advertising pixels, and nothing is sold or shared.

Trending is clicks per hour over the last full hour plus the current one. It is a rolling rate, so a listing that just started working shows up quickly.

Where the names and logos come from

There is nothing to upload. When you bid, shoutbid reads the page you submitted and takes its title, description and icon, the same metadata a link preview uses. If a site has no usable icon, the listing falls back to its initials. To change how your listing reads, change your own page and bid again.

The sound

Every completed bid plays a shout, for everyone watching the board at that moment. It is on by default; the speaker in the header turns it off, and your browser remembers. Nothing plays until you have interacted with the page. Browsers require that, and so do we.
